Matthew 11:28-29 KJV

  • Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
  • Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Dear Friends, in this text, Jesus extends an invitation for all (v28) people to come to Him. When Adam and Eve chose to sin against God (Genesis 3:4-13), it had a continuous negative impact on all of those who would come after. But God promised them that He would send a Redeemer to reconcile them and their descendants to Himself (Genesis 3:15, 21). For without this promise and God being able to fulfill it, there would be no hope for anyone.

By this invitation of Jesus, one can see how much we are loved by God. The miracles that Jesus worked during His three years of public ministry shows us that He is God with us (Matthew 1:23) and that He came to save His people, that is all who believe, from their sins (Matthew 1:21).

Are you burdened about the trials of life? Do you live each day with a sense that you are

missing something? Do you Just want to know what to do about your sin? As this text teaches us, faith in Jesus can relieve us of these burdens. Trials will most certainly come but you certainly will not be alone.

Why come to Jesus? First, He offers to us peace with God. Jesus, who is our Creator (John 1:1-3 Colossians 1:16-17) through His sinless life, death and resurrection has made it possible for us to no longer be at enmity with God. Second, the text reminds us that we can’t save ourselves by trying to keep the law (10 commandments), or by doing good works. Rather being reconciled to God is only possible through His Son Jesus. Third, one should come to Jesus to find that needed rest for their souls. That rest begins the moment we believe and our hearts surrender to Him. Fourth, we should come accept His invitation to come because of His love for us, seen so clearly through His willing sacrifice on the cross. Fifth, come to Jesus, who is The Christ, because He has provided the only covering for our sins. And all of us are guilty of trespassing against God (Rom.3:23). He can free us from the entanglement of sin that obstructs the joy that God would love for us to experience. Lastly, come to Jesus today if you haven’t already, because He will never leave you as the text indicates. When we truly come to Jesus, He will never leave us no matter how cruel the world is. He will remain with us even when those we love are gone. He remains with us when it seems that our emotions have drained us. And He remains forever faithful to us even through the hardest periods in life.
